It's been a year since his adoption. His nose fur/color is starting to grow back, hopefully it'll be completely back to normal in a year or two!

He still gets anxious with strange dogs but that's okay! Any progress is considered good progress to me, although it can get annoying playing babysitter in public so much! He doesn't seem to understand that my cats don't play tug/frisbee either, but it's still adorable watching him try to teach them.

Here's to a good life with Wesley and my two cats!

What a great dog! His previous owners named him Rex, but he seems to enjoy his new name. We've had him for a little more than a week now and he is absolutely thriving with his obedience and dog training classes. He's still very excitable (even when he's all worn out!) and loves to be around people.

Even though he hasn't been cat tested, he does great with my two cats! My two cats have taken a liking to him too and can't stay out of my room! He's still getting use to dogs, but as long as they're well behaved he has no problem.

Wesley is my little adventure partner! I can't wait to train him in flyball and agility, he has so much energy and can RUN!

Thank you so much for all you've done for Wesley and all other dogs in your rescue!

I play fetch with her and she loves it. Burdie has gained about 7 lbs and is a very happy girl. She is very smart and we work on commands everyday. (Kathy C., don't know if you're still volunteering with SBPR, but you were the representative to assist us nine years ago!) Levi continues to thrive in our home, and he's been a very special companion to me the last nine years. I've battled clinical depression a long time. Levi is constantly with me at home. No matter how I'm feeling or what kind of day I'm having Levi is there for me. In my office, he's curled up at my feet under the desk (where he is now). On the couch he's right beside me or in my lap. We go for walks together, and Levi is a forever friend to anyone who will throw his ball for him! He threatens to "eat" the UPS man, and patiently waits for his pizza crust when my husband is enjoying pizza & a movie. When the day is done, you'll find Levi right next to my head while I'm sleeping.
Like the car "paw" sticker says, "Who Rescued Whom?"
Thank you SBPR.
Thank you Chuck for supporting me and letting me adopt Levi.
He's the BEST k-9 buddy ever!

I can't believe I've had this gorgeous little girl in my life for a year now. Georgie Girl has truly blossomed. She still has her little sassy attitude. My parents moved here from the east coast and and they have been loving her up. She has them wrapped around her paw (can you say two hour belly rubs?!) And she's so smart! She's finished basic training 1 and 2, tricks (sit pretty, roll over, high five, turn left/turn right, and more), and Rally 1. Next I think we'll try nose work – she loves to sniff! She brings so much joy into our lives.

My doctor suggested a pet. At SBPR I found my solace. I named him Rusty as he is a chocolate Pomeranian. He has become my joy, comfort, and support all this time. I have now retired from teaching and taking him tutoring with me. Children love to earn the privilege of holding him. He's never read the 'yippy yappy" Pomeranian book, Rusty's got the countenance and soul of a quiet little old man. He doesn't play with toys, he enjoys hiding his bones around the apt. and praticing tricks with me. He'll do anything for food! He can sit, stand on back paws, crawl to me on command, stay, come, even "go wee" on command! He also pushes a little tiny ball with his nose or paw, and gives 'kisses' on command.

After only thinking about it for maybe 24 hours, the search began. We came upon your website & decided to check out your Adoption Fair (just so happens it was the following day). Moments after walking into the pet store, I fell in love with TWO dogs - one was the mother & the other was one of two brothers, Benji. Benji's brother was adopted moments before we arrived, but Benji definately caught our eye. After spending some time looking @ this precious puppy & getting him out of the crate to play/hold our family knew we just had to take him home! AND that is exactly what we did - "Benji" came home with us minutes later & here we are in 2012 & he is just as adorable as the first day we brought him home.
I believe a week later we gave our son the option of changing his name, being a Giants fan, our son changed his name to "Buster" :-)
Thank you so much for giving us the oppurtunity to rescue & bring Buster AKA Benji home with us. He is very much apart of our family & our lives will forever be touched. He's just like another memeber, he goes everywhere with us - park, store, camping trips. He loves to go "bye bye" & play with "Bosley" - my parents older Chocolate Lab.
We hope to update you often about Buster.
Regards,
Jake, Heather, Jacob & BusterUnknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292156047517369642.post-39808041061692159712011-12-28T15:14:00.003-08:002011-12-28T15:14:55.002-08:00Update on Sydney

Happy Holidays from the Valle-Deocampo Family!
Hi Carol,
We have been wanting to send an update on Sydney AKA Tia for some time now and we are so excited to let you know how great she is doing. We decided to name him Romeo because he is just such a little love bug! He loves meeting new people and tries really hard to kiss everyone he meets. He keeps jumping and licking until he gets a couple kisses in and then calms down. We have another dog and cat; Romeo gets along famously with both of them.
Romeo has been crate trained, but we like to sleep with him on the bed with us and he fights me for my pillow every night. I usually let him win =) We wake up to little puppy kisses in the morning. Ben and I have never really been morning people, but Romeo has really changed that for us.
I work from home 2-3 days out of the week and try to have Romeo sit in his little bed next to my chair, but he likes to jump up and sit in my lap while I'm working. I have given up, he lets out the cutest little sigh and puts his paws up on the chair and I just can't say no. That's where he is right now! He is such a little love, all he wants to do is love and snuggle.
When Ben and I are away from the house for even an hour, we come back and he is just an explosion of kisses and love and jumps all over us for about 10 minutes.
He knows sit and we are trying to train him to stay (away from the dinner table) while we eat as we do not give him any people food. He is so eager to learn and is a quick learner. We could not have asked for a more perfect puppy. He is such an amazing contribution to our little family.
We would love to know more about Romeo's past. Where did he come from? Does he have any siblings?
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for Romeo.

Megan TorkelsonUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292156047517369642.post-81964713762643992532011-08-07T13:46:00.001-07:002011-08-07T13:46:27.706-07:00Gizmo AKA Doodle

Hi Carol
Gizmo and the cat are getting along. I hope you're still involved with SBBR. I check the website frequently, looking at the dogs that are available for adoption (I think I might get a second dog within the next year).
Daisy is now almost 2.5 years old. It's been a busy two years. She is a bundle of energy, gets into all kinds of trouble, but is also incredibly cute and sweet. People ask me all the time what kind of dog she is because she is a very good looking dog (I tell everybody about SBBR). When I first got her she was almost all white, then she developed some spots which are now covered up by longer white hair that started to grow when she was about 7 months old. Also, her little rat tail became very feathery around that time. She also has long hair on her ears which gets curly when she is wet. She has developed some allergies and I will have her tested in the next two weeks. I think she is allergic to gluten and she's been on a gluten free diet since she was 6 months old, but she is also very itchy and scratches herself a lot. Her skin looks very pink, and I'm hoping that we can at least figure out what is causing it, so that I can somehow reduce her exposure to it.
We still live in Pacifica, very close to the beach. Daisy gets to spend 1.5 – 2 hours on the beach most days, as Fort Funston is only 15 minutes from home. We also have a beach by our apartment complex, but it's been closed lately due to some construction that's taking place. On days when we don't go to the beach, we drive to a beautiful park in Half Moon Bay where we go hiking. Daisy learned to fetch her ball pretty early on, and I have become a master with the chuck-it. I have the freedom right now to work from home 3 days a week, which means that Daisy and I can take long walks during the day. On days when I'm in the office, Daisy goes with her dog walker and a group of dogs to Fort Funston or a large park in San Francisco where she can run around with her buddies. Her dog walker refers to Daisy as a "party girl" because she usually has a "boy friend" or two in the dog group and loves to run and give kisses.
I must say that I'm glad that Daisy has slowed down just a tiny bit. The first year we would go for 3 hour walks (meaning I throw the ball and she would run, and run, and run….) and she still wouldn't be tired. She is the epitome of a high energy dog. These days a two hour walk seems to be enough. She has also made friends with my one remaining cat (one died in January at the age of 16). Sam and Daisy are very cute together, even though Daisy sometimes scares Sam (also 16) with her energy. But overall, they are buddies and I have seen them snuggle up next to each other (though both would probably deny it).

Do you know what happened to her siblings?

Also, I have some of Daisy's toys, leashes, etc that are still in reasonably good condition. I was wondering whether I can mail them somewhere because I don't get down to San Jose very often to drop them off during your adoption meetings.
I will also be sending an update and photos to SBBR for the website.
BettinaUnknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292156047517369642.post-42936158469316591212011-07-24T10:19:00.001-07:002011-07-24T10:19:19.919-07:00GingerGinger is a cockapoo that I adopted in June of this year. I had just lost my beloved Sammy, a springer spaniel that I had also adopted from SBPR 10 years ago. Ginger is a small version of Sammy, equally loving and so, so gentle. She is a joy to me and everything a gentle companion could be. Thank you so much for caring for her until I could find and adopt her.
Carole DitlowUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292156047517369642.post-58948578444354473742011-07-22T23:06:00.001-07:002011-07-22T23:06:14.964-07:00Ozzy and his forever playmate Ruby

Hi!!

Just wanted to let you know how well Ozzie is doing. He has been checked by our vet Dr. Saito, and he checked out healthy. We got him heartworm tested but we have not gotten results yet--got him a Bortadella immunization--transferred his microchip info to us.

He loves a morning walk on the leash. He has NEVER has a potty accident in the house---He learned the "doggie door" in two days! He is so very smart. My husband and I are crazy about him. He is on the bed beside me as I type this.

He enjoys the new puppy we got. It is female and they play and play together---When he gets tired, he lets her know, but he has incredible energy--he can run like the wind.

He does not like being in his crate when I leave the house, but sleeps comfortably in it at night as long as he is let out when the first human is up. He is a people dog and likes to follow me around.

Cute things he has done: When I sit on a chair on the deck, he sits on a chair too. Today, he took his leash off the wall and drug it over to me! He snuck some of my husband's milk when he wasn't looking and sat there w/a milk mustache, licking his lips. He is very interested in the cat's food and any treats in the puppy's crate---Yes, he grabs my thongs. :-) What a super, great, funny dog.

BarbUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292156047517369642.post-85791966175096900622011-07-22T13:11:00.001-07:002011-07-22T13:11:53.698-07:00Diane Bush Was WonderfulHi

Could you pass on to Diane Bush how well
"Tinkerbell" is doing. Since then, I always wanted one for a companion. After many, many years of not being able to dedicate the time to a dog, my situation changed to where I could finally care for a basset hound. Enter Callahan, the four-year-old troubadour.

I was in contact with different rescue originations looking for that one basset, but I was having trouble finding him. One morning in March, 2011, I decided to search the internet for additional rescue organizations, and I happened upon SBPR. Low and behold! a beautiful basset hound was listed on the front page, having been added to the list just one day prior. I contacted his wonderful foster family, and within six hours I was sitting with them at a local pet store.

Since that day, almost three months ago, I knew Callahan and I had found each other after many years of waiting. I will not lie and say things have been perfect. Callahan had some nasty separation distress issues, along with some bad habits (standing on the coffee table and pulling like a sled-dog on leash were two of his favorites). We have been working with a professional trainer from the start, and Callahan has made great progress, as have I as his guardian. He is now content being left alone for long stretches, and many of his bad habits have been retrained for good ones.

Although he can be a stubborn and trying dog—I'd expect nothing less of a basset hound—he is a joy to live with, and if it were not for his physical dog characteristics, I would mistake him for a human. He's reached a healthy weight since his adoption, and he is in perfect health and as fit as a fiddle, which I'm sure he could teach himself to play if I bought him one!

Callahan and I thank all those at SBPR for your dedication to bettering the lives of animals and humans!
Justin L.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7292156047517369642.post-18429597910289776752011-03-30T18:19:00.001-07:002011-03-30T18:19:33.922-07:00Lily Update

Hi Carol,
Thanks again for Ruby(Lilly).
